Dr. Emmy Chirchir – a founding Partner at E&K Consulting Firm was awarded the prestigious Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) from the President of Kenya, His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta in December 2018. Dr. Chirchir was nominated for the MBS commendation by The National Honours and Awards Committee in the Office of the President on the merit of her leadership role in innovation, technology and entrepreneurship in Kenya.
Dr. Chirchir is among some of the youngest recipients of this meritorious commendation. The President awarded Dr. Chirchir for championing her commendable work inthe private sector development, innovation and technology space, ultimately championing improvements in the ease of doing business and Kenya’s ranking in the Ease of Doing Business Index as published in the Doing Business Report. These include the successful automation of various permitting systems in County Governments in Kenya – a move that has seen these Governments improve transparency in revenue collection while concurrently improving the regulatory and business environments for entrepreneurs.
Commenting on the award Dr. Chirchir said:

In 2013, Dr. Chirchir co-founded E&K Consulting Firm – a pan-African advisory and investment firm working in the healthcare, technology and finance sectors. Since its inception, Dr. Chirchir has led the firm to: advise healthcare transactions valued at over US$20Billion; develop and implement strategies for businesses valued at over US$100 Million; and technically lead engagements and programs for over 50 unique clients in over 10 African countries.
Dr. Chirchir is also a co-founder and co-covenor of the Health Exchange (HealthX) – an innovation dialogue platform convening stakeholders in the health and technology sectors to surface and discuss emerging and current health topics in the African region.
Dr. Chirchir holds a PhD in Political Science from the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität, Germany. Her research focus was on open government and open data in developing countries looking at the intersection of ICT, public participation, public service delivery, innovation, health and economic development.
