Impact evaluation of a global not-for-profit organization’s advocacy and policy work in improving the efficiency of regulatory processes governing HIV/AIDS clinical trials across 8 countries in Africa

Alt

Most African countries are spending far more money on HIV/AIDS than on any other disease. HIV/AIDS has received significantly more funding for research and development compared to any other disease in Africa. Despite these investments, R&D outcomes have not been significant.  The client, a leading multilateral donor agency, wanted to understand what challenges face HIV/AIDS research and advocacy work in Africa and how best to fund such work in the continent

The E&K Approach:

  • Conducted rigorous research on the financing mechanisms and operational work of HIV/AIDS research centers across 8 African countries
  • Appraised the regulatory frameworks governing HIV/AIDS research and policy work in Africa
  • Identified bottlenecks in the HIV/AIDS research, policy and advocacy value chains

Impact:

  • Developed evidence-based policy recommendations to the HIV/AIDs global community on most impactful ways to fund HIV/AIDS advocacy work in Africa
